Role and Indications for Radiation Treatment of Cervix Cancer
Radiotherapy is the treatment of choice for patients with locally extensive cervix cancer (stage IB to IV).
In many cases, a program of external beam radiation is followed by intracavitary treatment.
Benefits
A substantial proportion of patients are cured with radiotherapy, and research is ongoing to improve cure rate. Radiotherapy provides excellent palliation for symptoms such as pain or bleeding.
