Clinical Research

The Radiation Medicine Program has over 150 active research studies for patients with cancer. These studies are testing a wide range of exciting new treatments that will improve the outcome of patients with cancer in the future.

The studies are very important because they provide information about which treatments are most appropriate in different circumstances. Some of our studies examine:

  • the relative effectiveness of treatments
  • cancer behaves in individual patients
  • the identification of cancer using advanced technology like MRI and PET scanning
  • delivering radiation treatment to the cancer and preventing side effects
  • controlling pain and other symptoms in patients suffering from advanced disease

Participating in a research study is a tremendous opportunity for patients and their families to learn about exciting new cancer treatments, and to contribute to the development of more effective approaches to combatting this disease. If you are a patient, ask your doctor about research studies that you might be eligible for. All of our research studies have been extensively reviewed by experts to be sure that they are appropriate and safe, and have been approved by the University Health Network Research Ethics Review Board.

For a detailed list of active clinical trials, see the Ontario Cancer Research Network.
