Radiation therapy is a highly effective treatment modality for patients with cancer. Used alone, or in combination with other approaches such as surgery or chemotherapy, it cannot only cure many patients, but also control tumour to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life. Over half of all patients with cancer will require radiation therapy at some point as part of their overall cancer treatment program.
The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) provides consultations for patients with all types of cancer, recommends optimal treatment approaches, delivers safe and effective radiation treatments and offers ongoing follow-up care. Our expert teams are organized into cancer site groups that have developed protocols based on research evidence to guide decisions regarding the role, indications and benefits of radiation therapy in specific instances. Many cancer site groups will have specialized programs, and active clinical trials. The RMP has the following cancer site groups.
