Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

Role of Radiation Treatment for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Radiation treatment is used alone or combined with chemotherapy and surgery for patients with early stage cancers. In selected situations, it can be used postoperatively as adjuvant treatment and as palliative treatment to the lung tumour or sites of metastatic disease.

Indications

  • Stage I/II when surgery not indicated
  • Stage IIIA/IIIB as part of combined modality treatment
  • Stage IV for palliation

Benefits

Radiotherapy can control local tumour growth, prolong survival, palliate symptoms and in certain situations offer the potential for cure.

Special Programs

  • Stereotactic Hypofractionated RT program for T1T2T3N0  peripheral tumours in medically inoperable patients
  • Image Guided RT programs for all radically treated patients
  • Studies of FDG PET
  • Clinical trials of novel targeted agents in combination with radiation

How to Make a Referral

Patients may be referred to one of the radiation oncologists in the Site Group either through the departmental referral process or by contacting one of the physicians directly.
